There are many different styles of yoga available from the popular Hatha, Ashtanga and Iyengar, to the lesser well known Yin, Anusara and Forrest. The classes I teach have their roots in Hatha, although heavily influenced by all the styles I practice, and are suitable for all levels and abilities.
This is a dynamic class with an emphasis on fluid movement, flowing in and out of the asanas with the use of the breath. This allows us to be fully present in every moment throughout our practice, syncing mind, body and spirit. Our practice will vary in intensity from class to class but we practice vinyasa krama (in stages) so that we can remain at the level that is relevant for our body at that particular time; thus making this class suitable for everyone regardless of ability. The Vinyasa Flow class in Nether Stowey is held in a beautiful candlelit setting providing the perfect ambience for our practice.
PERFECT FOR: THOSE WHO WANT AN ALL ROUND GENERAL PRACTICE THAT WILL LEAVE THEM FEELING ENERGISED AND BALANCED
Yin Yoga is a quiet and introspective style of yoga which is all floor based so there no standing poses. The poses are held for a long time which gives us the chance to work deep into the muscle fascia and connective tissues by gently "stressing" them in order to elongate and strengthen them resulting in increased joint flexibility. It is not the same as restorative yoga which requires very little effort! Yin is the perfect accompaniment to yang styles of yoga such as Vinyasa, Hatha, Ashtanga etc. as it gives us the chance to go deeper, physically and mentally. It is also excellent for those who participate in other sports and suffer from tight muscles and fascia, or those who generally suffer from a limited range of flexibility. The Yin class in Nether Stowey is held in a beautiful candlelit setting providing the perfect ambience for our practice.
PERFECT FOR: PROMOTING FLEXIBILITY, RE-CONNECTION THROUGH INTROSPECTION, AND RELEASING STAGNANT ENERGY
How I Teach
First and foremost from the heart and with passion. Yoga is my way of life and I want you to leave a class feeling inspired and encouraged to walk its path. I occasionally offer physical adjustments and assists as I want you have the opportunity to decide whether or not you want to explore the alignment yourself, however verbal adjustments will always be given. I believe that this empowers you and gives you the opportunity to listen to your biggest teacher - your body. During a class we chant (not essential so don't panic if you don't feel comfortable doing this - remember its your practice!), we practice pranayama (breath work), we meditate and we always finish with a grounding Savasana (relaxation), with the option of eye pillows, guaranteed to leave you floating out of the door.
